At times, you may notice our AI avatar mispronouncing words or acronyms. You may need to phonetically spell words or acronyms so they are read correctly.
NOTE: If you need to phonetically spell a word or acronym in the text field, that is also how it will appear in the closed captioning.
Below are some helpful tips on how to correct its speech through text input.
Acronyms
If our avatar mispronounces an acronym, try spelling it phonetically to ensure correct pronunciation, particularly for acronyms read as a word.
Use uppercase letters to emphasize the stressed syllable.
Use lowercase letters for unstressed/softer syllables.
Example | Solution |
EURASHE – European Association of Institutions in Higher Education | This acronym is pronounced as one word. Type “yoo-RASH-ee.” |
AACRAO – American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers | This acronym is pronounced as one word. Type “ACK-row.” |
Homographs
You may need to write the pronunciation for homographs so that our avatar reads it correctly.
Example | Solution |
She will lead the team to victory. | Lead in this context is pronounced with the long e sound. If it is mispronounced, type “leed.” |
Be careful not to tear the paper. | Tear in this context is pronounced with the long a sound. If mispronounced, type “tare.” |
Long words
Our avatar may have difficulty pronouncing very long words, especially if they contain complex syllable structures or uncommon letter combinations. It’s helpful to split the word into single words, separated by a dash.

Numbers and Symbols

Ben & Jerry’s | Ben and Jerry’s |
Kyron Studio's Pronunciation Feature
Kyron Studio can support you with adding pronunciation for specific words. To do so, follow these steps:
In a Lecture or Question segment, use your mouse to select the word(s) in the video transcript field.
Click on the “Add Pronunciation” popover.
Enter your pronunciation and click the check mark.
You’ll notice that the pronunciation has been inserted, using some special tags.
A couple notes on the pronunciation feature:
When typing out the pronunciation, only use lowercase letters. We have found that using uppercase letters for the syllables you want stressed results in incorrect pronunciation.
The avatar will speak the pronunciation, but the text in the video and subtitles will display the original word or phrase.
If you need to edit or delete the pronunciation, you will need to do so manually.
If you deleted the pronunciation, make sure all of the special tags have been deleted.
