Kyron Learning passes completion status to Canvas. We will send an update to Canvas each time a learner completes an activity, and we submit the assignment for the learner when all activities are completed.
Make sure you have followed the steps from our LTI 1.3 Setup on Canvas document to ensure you can receive the data.
When you create an assignment using a Kyron Asset in Canvas, you can choose one of three grading options:
Required for points – Students earn points that count toward their final grade.
Complete/Incomplete – Students receive credit based on completion status only.
Points, not included in final grade – Students earn points that do not affect their overall course grade.
Required for Points
If you want learners to:
Earn full points by completing all activities in a Kyron Asset
Receive partial credit for partial completion
Have the points count towards the final grade
Select the Points option when creating your assignment.
A dash will be shown when a learner starts an asset, but has not yet completed any activities.
As learners complete activities within an asset, the score will update to show their progress. In the example below, the learner has finished 5 out of 40 total activities.
Once the asset is fully completed, the learner should see they’ve received full points. They will also see the date and time in which they completed the Kyron asset.
Complete/Incomplete
If you want learners to:
Use Kyron assets as a resource, but don’t necessarily care how much of the resource they utilize
Have the asset count towards the final grade
Use the Complete/Incomplete option when creating your assignment.
A dash will be shown when a learner starts an asset, but has not yet completed any activities.
Once the learner has completed at least one activity in the asset, there will be a check mark as the score. In the example below, the learner has only completed one activity.
Once the learner has completed all the activities in an asset, the date and time in which they finished will appear in the Submitted column.
Points, not included in the final grade
If you want to:
Track a learner’s progress in the gradebook without affecting their overall grade
Select the Points option when creating your assignment. Then, check the box labeled “Do not count this assignment toward the final grade.”
Additional details
Below are some additional things to consider when setting up your assignments on Canvas.
Submission deadlines
If you don’t want learners to access Kyron Assets after the assignment’s due date, set the Due Date and Until Date to be the same in your assignment settings.
If a learner tries to open the Kyron Asset after the specified date, they will see the following message on their screen:
Sizing
To ensure the best learning experience and proper display of the Kyron Asset on learners’ screens, adjust your assignment settings as recommended below.
1. Set the size settings when setting up your developer key - For this option, you will need an administrator of the Canvas account.
Go to the admin settings for your account
Go to your developer keys and find the one for Kyron
Edit the key
Go to additional settings
Edit the selection height and width (800 x 1200 is recommended)
2. Load Kyron in a new tab - This will get learners the largest possible view width, but will take them out of the LMS.
When creating your assignment, be sure to click “Load This Tool In A New Tab” in the Submission Type box.
