How the Learning signal is calculated
The Learning signal shows students' progress toward the learning objectives, based on what they said and chose in Kyron activities.
Conversations | Multiple choice | |
🟢 Strong | The student reached the conversation's learning goal and showed no misconceptions | Correct on the first try |
🟡 Moderate | The student reached the learning goal but showed one or more misconceptions along the way | Correct, but not on the first try |
🔴 Weak | The student didn't reach the learning goal | Attempted, but never answered correctly |
⚪️ Not enough data | The student didn't finish the conversation, or it was stopped for inappropriate content | Not attempted |
How the Engagement signal is calculated
The Engagement signal shows how actively students are taking part in Kyron conversations (adapted from the ICAP framework; Chi & Wylie, 2014). It reflects how students participate, not whether their answers are correct. Multiple-choice questions don't count toward Engagement.
🟢 Strong: The student actively engaged with the ideas, for example by explaining their thinking, making connections, or building on what the tutor said.
🟡 Moderate: The student participated but mostly followed along, giving brief or minimal responses.
🔴 Weak: The student went off topic, or the conversation ended early because the student wasn't engaging.
⚪️ Not enough data: The student didn't finish the conversation, or it was stopped for inappropriate content.
